Protect your Tattoo, Preserve the Art

FIRST 3 DAYS (second skin care)

  • Keep the second skin on for 3 days.

  • After 3 days, remove it in the shower using warm water, gently peeling it downward.

  • Create a foam in your hands using a fragrance-free soap and gently wash the tattoo. Do not rub or exfoliate.

  • Rinse thoroughly with water.

  • Pat dry only with a clean towel or paper towel.

  • Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free lotion that does not contain alcohol.

Why:

Second skin protects the tattoo from bacteria while allowing it to heal properly. Gentle washing and alcohol-free, fragrance-free lotion prevent irritation and help preserve the ink during the healing process.

Why not Aquaphor or Vaseline:

Aquaphor and Vaseline are petroleum-based and very thick. It creates a heavy barrier that can trap moisture, heat, and bacteria, preventing the skin from breathing properly. A fragrance-free lotion is lighter and allows proper airflow, which is essential for healing, without the higher risk of irritation.

Peeling & Itching (Days 5–14)

  • Let the tattoo peel naturally.

  • Continue applying fragrance-free lotion lightly.

  • Do not scratch, pick, or peel.

Why:

Pulling scabs or flakes can remove ink and cause uneven healing or scarring.

What to Avoid (Very Important)

NO POOLS, LAKES, HOT TUBS & OCEAN (for at least 2 weeks)

Why:
Standing water contains bacteria and chemicals. Soaking can soften healing skin, cause ink loss, and increase the risk of infection. Showers are fine, soaking is not.

NO GYM FOR AT LEAST 3-5 DAYS AFTER GETTING TATTOED

Why:

Fresh tattoos are open wounds. Sweating, friction, stretching, and shared gym surfaces increase the risk of infection, irritation, ink loss, and delayed healing. Excessive movement can also cause swelling and affect how the tattoo settles into the skin.

NO SUN EXPOSURE (minimum 3–4 weeks)

Why:
Sun exposure damages healing skin and breaks down pigment, causing fading and longer healing time.

Once healed, always apply a Mineral SPF 30–50 when exposed to sun.

NO TIGHT CLOTHING & EXCESSIVE FRICTION

Why:
Friction irritates healing skin and can pull scabs, affecting final results.

What Should I Avoid Eating?

For your tattoo to heal smoothly, it’s best to avoid things that can increase inflammation, like excessive sugar, greasy or processed foods, alcohol, and very spicy dishes. Keeping a balance diet and hydrated body supports the healing process and helps your skin recover faster!
